When thinking about my film, I came up with an idea for a plot that features a woman believing that her child is real when in fact it is just a doll. I decided that as this was interesting that I find do some research surrounding this topic. I came across an interesting post on a websites regarding the tropes I was interested in.
The trope baby-doll baby is when a mother thinks that a doll is her child and therefore treats the doll as if it were a human baby. This can be caused by guilt, trauma or even caused by parental abandonment. People are able to by realistic dolls as they are seen by some as therapeutic for some women who may have experience loss or may be elderly.
This is a sensitive subject however I feel I will be able to portray this correctly and this scenario will include one of the features that I want in my film which was a sudden relevation. However, with this plot I have decided that instead of the characters having a revelation it would in fact be the audience.
By researching this tropes I was able to fully understand what could have caused it and am now able to start thinking about story lines for my short film, that surround Baby-Doll Babies.
