Ancilary Tasks, Film Poster

For my ancillary task I was given a choice of three different tasks to create around my film. They were;
  • A Theatrical Film Poster
  • A Radio Trailer
  • A Film Review Page
I have chosen for my A2 coursework to create film poster and a film review page. I think that these would help to explore in depth the film plot and because of this I will be able to interest a bigger audience as they will be clearer on what the film is about. Before beginning my ancillary tasks I decided that I would do some quick research in film posters relating to my topic or genre. This would enable me to see to conventions of a theatrical film poster of this genre and would therefore help me decide whether I should stick to the conventions or break them. I decided that I would create a mood board in order to help me create my theatrical poster in order to get a clear view of film posters. I created this mood board on a photo editing site called 'Fotor'. This is the results that I had.
Film Poster about Mental Health, found on google images
When looking at these images I could clearly see specific shots or angles hat stood out. I noticed that close up's of faces of half faces had been used constantly throughout films on mental health, I found that this was an interesting way to display the film topic and found it intriguing. Another thing that I noticed about these film posters what that there is no mass of bright colours that stand out on the poster, the colours shown are dark, dull and simplistic almost conveying that mental health is nothing to be happy about and already coveys to the audience that this film isn't happy topic or events. The way that the poster have been arranged with the titles and layout makes the film seem as though it is based on real effects as in some films there are statistics around the film's topic and the overall look of the poster displays a sense of seriousness and real life emotions. The fonts of these posters are simplistic and some seem to have the look of being handwritten where are others are just very bold and simple instead of fancy writing. This makes the film seem simple to understand and basic which may influence a larger target audience.

  1. This is good Victoria - upload drafts of your posters and compare your drafts to existing texts, picking out their meanings and which conventions you have kept. Pick two posters that you particularly want to emulate.
