Character Explanation

Chloe

To fully understand the characters and plot of my short film I decided to create a blog post explaining each character in their role to ensure that it is clear what the audience are thinking and what my intensions were. 

The first character to be shown in my film is the main character Chloe. She plays the role of the 'mother' in this film and is shown to be struggling with not being able to have a child. Due to a failed IVF try and being told she is not able to have children, she struggles to come to terms with the fact she is not able to. Chloe is suffering from Depression and Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is "a mental health condition that causes disordered ideas, beliefs and experiences."(Patient.info, 25/11/15). Due to her Schizophrenia Chloe believes that she in fact does have a child and that she is a new mother. Her Schizophrenia causes hallucinations and delusions which cause her to believe that her baby is in fact real. As we learn from her flashback her partner at the time was a man called David and when we are shown the present time we learn that they are no longer together.

David

David is never shown throughout the short film and because of this we do not know who he is but there are a few things that we do know about him. We know that nine months before the film that him and Chloe we involved and that they had been trying for a baby. We also learn that between those nine months and the present day that David and Chloe grew apart and David left Chloe because of this and because he struggled to cope with her problems and mental issues that arose after being told she wasn't able to conceive.

Katy

Katy is the sister of David and friends of Chloe. She like David has been pushed away by Chloe after she found out that she couldn't conceive but despite this tries to check on Chloe to make sure that she is okay. Similar to David we do not see Katy on screen however we do hear her voice as she is always behind the camera. 

Doctor

The doctor is not a main character is this short film. He only features in the flashbacks where he tells Chloe that her IVF failed and that she is unable to conceive. The doctor in this scene clearly sympathises with Miss Price and can tell that she is visibly and emotionally upset by this news.
